The Common Ground Alliance (CGA) is pleased to help launch a program in 2008 that will educate children by using the newly developed underground utility safety curriculum. The curriculum includes supporting illustrations and hands-on activities designed to reinforce key damage prevention messages. The training materials were developed in partnership with the Progressive Agriculture Foundation and were successfully pilot tested in 2007.
The training will emphasize the "Call Before You Dig" message by using the 811 concepts and mascot—BUD!
The mission of the Progressive Agriculture Foundation (PAF) is to make farm and ranch life safer and healthier for all children through education and training. The training will also be beneficial for children everywhere, from the big city to rural America.
The goal for 2008 is for the CGA and its members to provide support to the nationwide network of Safety Day coordinators that organize the events so they are able to include this underground utility safety curriculum in their Safety Day programs.
For a complete listing of the upcoming Safety Day locations, please see the Progressive Ag Foundation website at: www.progressiveag.org
Ask your one call center how you can help by becoming the point person to promote and coordinate the underground utility safety lesson for Safety Day events in your state. Together we can educate the next generation of excavators! For more information, please email kerr@commongroundalliance.com.
